Mansfield, OH

The Ohio State Reformatory AKA The Mansfield Prison

Mansfield, OH

Originally meant for young first-time offenders, Mansfield Prison quickly became overcrowded with hardened criminals. Reform and rehabilitation were replaced with brutal punishment methods such as the use of water hoses, the “sweatbox” for non-white inmates, electro-torture, and solitary confinement in “The Hole.” Inmates faced violence from others and poor living conditions, leading to death or insanity. The prison has since been restored into a museum and popular filming location, but rumors of hauntings persist, and ghost tours are now offered.

According to chilling accounts, the chapel is notorious for being a hotbed of ghostly activity within Mansfield Prison. It’s no coincidence that this was once the site of executions before its transformation into a place of worship. The basement, known as the darkest depths of the prison, harbors a relentless spirit – a 14-year-old boy who met his brutal end at the hands of sadistic guards. It is suggested that his tormented soul still lingers in the shadows, forever trapped in the place of his unjust death. But it is also said that he is not alone. Visitors have reported encountering an ominous guard in the basement, emitting an aura of pure malevolence.

The spirits here are not afraid to make their presence known – strange lights and eerie noises are frequently captured by visitors brave enough to explore this cursed space. Ghostly figures are often seen looming in doorways, only to disappear when confronted directly. And beware, for some unfortunate souls have reported being physically grabbed by unseen hands, a terrifying reminder of the violent history that plagues this place.

But perhaps the most sinister location in Mansfield Prison is The Hole – a hellish pit reserved for disobedient inmates. Here, they were stripped of all human contact, light, and sanity as they were subjected to torture and torment among rats and cockroaches. Many lost their minds and took their own lives in this desolate abyss. The despair and anguish that permeates these walls can still be felt today, making it a place of true terror for those who dare to enter.

Haunt Of The Month:
Miss Molly’s Hotel

Fort Worth, TX

The oldest bed and breakfast in Fort Worth. Established in 1910. Originally called the Palace Rooms.

Miss Molly’s Hotel has a long history. From fleeting glimpses of the “Wild West” as a speak easy and bordello, to its long history as a boarding house and now, a hotel. Miss Molly’s has had many souls pass through over the decades. Some, (in death) have stayed around wandering about the hotel. I have personally witnessed and recorded paranormal activity on multiple visits over the years.

Intelligent voice recordings- Lights flickering – Power surges, turning off equipment- Knocks inside cabinets- Doors slamming— this is a highly active hotel.

If you are coming to Fort Worth and plan to visit the Stockyards, Miss Molly’s is a ghost hunters must see! Each room has its own theme.

While there has been activity throughout the entire hotel, I have had the most experiences in: Miss Josie’s Room, The Cattleman’s Room and The Cowboy’s Room. If you stay or have stayed at this location, I’d love to hear about your experiences!

Happy Hauntings!
